Light Levels

In general, every space is defined by three levels of lighting.  These are ambient lighting, task lighting, and accent lighting. These levels of light work in layers, helping to create a sense space and a comfortable environment.

• Ambient lighting is space lighting, creating the overall feel for the space.
• Accent lighting highlights certain features of the space, including architectural features, art installations, and pieces of community furniture.
• Task lighting provides focused working light in office spaces, such as desk lamps, table lamps, and swing-arm lamps.

The lighting color for each type of light is also important. We also take into consideration lighting controls, including the brightness and dimmability of each type of light, how those lights interact with natural light in the workplace, and whether the light frequency in a space promotes appropriate responses from our internal clocks.
